If you’ve been following Donald Trump’s latest Twitter meltdowns, it’s very clear that he has a personal problem with Jeff Bezos, the CEO of tech giant Amazon. Lately Trump has been attacking Amazon like there’s no tomorrow, as well as going after Bezos’ media company, the Washington Post.
While Trump would love hide his true motives and have America believe his lies about how Amazon is screwing over the U.S. postal service and the Washington Post is fake news, one of Bezos own employees — Post senior editor Marc Fisher — set the record straight this afternoon on CNN. In an interview with Brian Stelter, Fisher revealed the real reason Trump is going after Bezos’ companies so aggressively and said it could be boiled down to pure jealousy.
Taking on Trump’s criticism of the billionaire business mogul and his repeated attacks on Bezos’ companies, Fisher summed it all up in just a few sentences:
“It’s an absurd claim. The Washington Post has done really critical reporting of Amazon… What’s really going on here is that the president, according to some people inside the White House, has kind of a jealousy issue with Jeff Bezos.”
“Forbes came out recently with its new list of the wealthiest billionaires and Jeff Bezos is at number one, and the president is at number 766.”
Considering the fragility of Trump’s ego, this makes perfect sense. Bezos has been in the news more and more recently thanks to his success, while reports on Trump continue to echo his failing presidency and unhinged behavior. So, he’s resorted to telling lies to damage the reputations of Bezos’ companies, even though his statements have been debunked several times. Even today, Trump was railing against Bezos as he tweeted:
“The Washington Post is far more fiction than fact. Story after story is made up garbage – more like a poorly written novel than good reporting. Always quoting sources (not names), many of which don’t exist. Story on John Kelly isn’t true, just another hit job!”
All Trump is doing is making himself look more pathetic. There is no competition between the failing president and Bezos, and the president is just making himself look worse. The fact that Bezos doesn’t even have to strike back in order for Trump to completely lose his sh*t proves it.
